Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day alone, with friends or with the person you’ve grown to love, there are many different ways to spend the day. Traditionally, flowers and chocolates are shared among friends and loved ones and dinners are eaten inside of four-star restaurants. But, this year, due the pandemic and other challenges, new traditions may be started.
Whether they’re your roommates or friends from across the world, there are plenty of ways to show your appreciation for your girlfriends. If you’re able to safely gather together you could try a new recipe, have a game night, make themed cocktails for each other or create an at-home spa.
While distance may create some challenges, it is not impossible to share the day together. Everyone could send a care package with favorite snacks, face masks and something special to show that you truly care. Then, open the packages on Zoom or Skype and spend the night chatting and enjoying the gifts that you’ve all shared.
Similarly to Galentine’s Day, Zoom, Skype and FaceTime will provide a helping hand. Sending gifts is encouraged and will make for a nice night on the phone with your partner. Some gift ideas include a surprise trip to visit them, letters for them to open, a playlist or photos of all of your favorite shared memories. There are also ways to stream a movie together, play games, watch the sunset, share a meal or bake a Valentine’s Day treat. The options are endless, as long as you get to spend the time creating moments together.
A lot of people dread the thought of spending Valentine’s Day alone, but there is no shame in spending one day of the year alone, especially when you can find new ways to enjoy it. You could do all of the traditional Valentine’s Day activities, but in your own company. Treat yourself to flowers, chocolate or your favorite food, cuddle up and watch a movie. Or, you could take the time to do things that you normally don’t get to do like taking a hike, reading a book or cleaning your space. If you feel like spreading the love, you could volunteer in your community or write cards for all of your friends.
While we’re looking forward to celebrating love, the pandemic is still very prevalent all over the world. To keep our loved ones safe, there are ways to show our care for others from six feet apart. Take a hike, go for a picnic, talk on the phone, write each other letters, go to the drive-in and see a movie, stargaze, go camping or tell your partner you love them from six feet apart while wearing a mask, of course!
